Justitia on tour

Happy children need leisure time, education, health, self-determination and freedom of expression. All this should be self-evident. But for many children worldwide, it is not, even though the UN Convention for Children’s rights celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2019. The Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation supports around 170,000 children and young people in 13 countries yearly to ensure a fairer and more peaceful world. The campaign we carried out with the Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation was about raising awareness of children’s rights among the Swiss population. As a figurehead, we created a Justitia girl who stands for children’s rights. In cooperation with the Kunstgiesserei St. Gallen, we developed a life-size bronze statue that, like her great role model, holds a scale in her hand and wears a blindfold. In this way, we created a small, strong superheroine who fights for children’s rights worldwide in the name of the Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation. As the centrepiece of a road show, the Justitia Girl toured the most important Swiss cities to collect donations. The tour started in St. Gallen and ended on 20 November, the International Children’s Rights Day, on the Bundesplatz in Bern. Justitia on Tour” was not the only measure of the fundraising campaign. A bulk mailing called on about one million Swiss households to donate. And a guerrilla action on playgrounds showed that we all must work together to enforce children’s rights.
